A Midwest-based cellulosic ethanol producer installed an 18,000-scfm selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for the abatement of ammonia, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NO_x).

The system, supplied by Catalytic Products International (CPI), will control the exhaust gas from one dryer and one noncondensable stream from the distillation process during cellulosic ethanol production. It will destroy VOC emissions with 98 percent destruction rate efficiency (DRE) and provide a 99 percent ammonia removal rate.
