Ziehl-Abegg, a German manufacturer of fans and electric drives, will invest around $105.7 million to build a new production plant in the United States.
The facility will be built in Winston-Salem, N.C., approximately 12.5 miles from the company’s existing site. The plant is expected to be ready for occupancy in 2024. The existing production plant will be relocated to the new site in 2025.
Ziehl-Abegg is a supplier of ventilation and drive technology, in combination with the corresponding control technology. “In addition to data centers, areas of application for the products include heating and refrigeration systems, clean rooms and agricultural systems,” said Mirco Herrmann, the U.S. managing director of Ziehl-Abegg.
Winding machines, welding robots and CNC machines will be installed at the facility, which will include a high bay warehouse. An in-house laboratory will require a system of air measurement and motor test rigs. The number of employees in North Carolina has increased from 40 to 230 in the past eight years. Ziehl-Abegg anticipates that there will be 800 people working at the site by 2030.
