LEARNING THEATER PRESENTATION
Heat Source Selection and Evaluation Criteria

Selecting the correct heat source for your process is an important step that will affect your entire production line and end product. The most common industrial heat sources include natural gas burners, electric coils, steam coils, hot oil coils, and indirect gas fired heat exchangers. There are several criteria and variables that must be assessed prior to choosing the heat source most suited to your application. When choosing a heat source, the following variables should be evaluated:

Common problems and concerns of different heating methods, such as long heat-up times, nonuniform heat delivery, and unacceptable product appearance or performance will also be discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Identify the heat sources available to dry web based materials.
  2. Explain the relevant criteria involved in choosing a heat source.
  3. Assess which heating objectives are most relevant for their application.
  4. Identify the pros and cons of using different heat sources for drying.
