Valmet will deliver boiler conversions and emission reduction solutions for Veolia Group’s Hungarian subsidiary at its power plant in Oroszlány, Hungary. The order includes the conversion of two coal-fired boilers to bubbling fluidized bed combustion to enable the boilers to run mainly on biomass fuel.

The Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG Power) selected Emerson to modernize and optimize operations at its Wansley Unit 9 combined-cycle power plant.

The B&W Thermal segment of Babcock & Wilcox will design, supply and install replacement thermal technologies for a power plant in North America. The contract is valued at more than $20 million.

B&W Thermal will supply and install replacement secondary air heater components for a U.S. power plant. The $5 million contract includes a suite of replacement parts, equipment and field service.

Aerodynamic flow control valves provide Cv/size ratios previously not offered in cage-guided control valves, according to the manufacturer. The valve design reduces flow turbulence and valve-generated noise. As a “smart” valve, Aeroflow has an optional dead zone I/O for accurate, stable pressure measurements. 

One characteristic common to many electric utility companies is the mix of sizes and technologies at the utility’s various plants. This means efforts to improve performance and reduce costs can vary from plant to plant.

In 2017, the China Development and Reform Commission issued the Northern China Winter Clean Heating Plan. It mandated that, by the end of 2021, clean combustion of coal in thermal power plants would be used to provide 8 billion square meters of heating area. Estimates say this will account for nearly 40 percent of the total clean-heating area in northern China in 2021.

A contract valued at more than $50 million was awarded to Babcock & Wilcox Co., a subsidiary of Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Inc., to design and supply boiler equipment for an existing North American power plant.
